Then there is the vinyl itself. The recorded wavelengths for high frequencies at the inner grooves approach the grain size of the vinyl substrate, particularly if the disc is made with cheap recycled vinyl, so that also creates distortion problems because the vinyl doesn't actually store the required waveforms properly.

Vinyl is victim to a lot of noise, distortion and EQ adjustments that don't make it as accurate as digital formats. That said, it has its own charms, and are a prettier tangible form of the music. Noise is well dealt with in digital formats, and they have a higher bit count than the equivalent of older analog masters, which are equivalent to.

Oct 07,  · The first new LP I bought has a great deal of popping and crackling. The music is quiet throughout so the surface noise is making it unlistenable in places. Old vinyl that I've dug out of storage plays fine (just the small amount of noise I'd expect for old vinyl in fair condition) so I don't think it's a problem with my player / stylus.

That is the most sensitive size to sibilance and tracking noise. Possibly because it is the standard size for most syli, or it generally has the brightest sound. You should possibly change to a 4x7 or 2x7.
